So this weeks recipe is how to make your very own probiotic drink
Yep we are making Kefir
So why do we want to take a probiotic?
Well with poor nutrition habits we put lots of strain on our gut and digestive system, combine this with medication such as antibiotics and we seriously weaken our good bacteria in the gut.
With less good bacteria we don’t absorb all the nutrients and goodness from our foods.
You have heard of the saying you are what you eat?
Well it’s more like you are what you digest.
Good bacteria helps with all manners of ailments from leaky gut, IBS, inflammation, bloating and cramps.
It has also been shown to help the immune system by repopulating the gut and promoting health.
You can buy probiotics from most shops but it can get pretty expensive and today Ill show you how to make your own.
What You Need:
- First up we need Kefir grains, these can be purchased online from amazon for around £15.
- Glass containers (got mine from Tesco £5)
- Wooden or plastic spoon
- Plastic sieve
- 1 litre Whole milk
Make sure the glass jar / container is clean.
Put the Kefir grains inside the glass jar and add up to 1 litre of milk (can use goats milk / coconut milk etc)
Leave in the jar for 48 hrs outside the fridge away from direct sunlight (make sure the lid is not too tight)
The Kefir will turn into a yoghurt like drink, once its ready remove the liquid with the sieve and start another batch with the grains.
It takes very much like sweet yoghurt, you can even add a little frozen berries and blend to give an excellent healthy smoothy.
You should have enough to keep you and your family going, and just keep making more from the same batch.
I will be taking everyday, let me know how you get on and leave a comment.
